First christmas tree contest!

October 14th, 2009 at 05:58 pm

Well, I know I will not win the "longest before turning on the heat" contest, so I decided to start "who will be the first to put up your christmas tree" contest?
I know someone in fla. or California will probably win the no heat contest. Heck, I have been to central Florida in January and we had to use the a/c.
It gets cold here. I live in the mountains and my county, Union, has the highest peak in Georgia.
The first winter we lived here (in a travel trailer while building our house) the temp. got down to 22 degrees below zero. that's cold.

So, I am starting a contest to see who will be the first to put up their christmas tree!
You see, when we first moved here, we had a live tree every year.
Now, the granddaughters are all grown up and moved away and there is just the 2 of us. I put up a small tree the past few years, but I really didn't like it.
I decided to order a bigger tree this year, one with the lights already on it. It is just a tree that you pull up from the box and it is already assembled.

Well, the tree came in on Oct. 6th and I wanted to see if I liked it or would I have to send it back. So, dh opened the box and put the tree up.
I like it and I am keeping it, so unless you have your tree up already, I win the contest!!!!!
Let's see who comes in 2nd!
I have 4 one dollar bills left over from yesterday to add to the challenge.
Prev. total $14,268.00
today 4.00
new total $14,272.00

Wow... you're definitely an early bird! I bought new tree similar to the one you described on sale a few years ago. It is still in the box in ID and has never been used. This year, we plan on Christmas in ID but won't get there until December 23 (we'll be on a vacation before then). So, I am definitely not winning the contest but I can't wait to set up my tree!

I love Christmas- the tree in all!! I finally threw away my tree from last year, so will have to buy another one. I have the 2 grandbabies this year. Jason Rome Tinsley is crawling and sitting up by himself now, so it will be fun to see him get near the gifts. How did you not freeze at 22 degrees below 0? How long did that harsh weather last?

Sicily, we slept in all our clothes and coats. It was so cold that my husband's blankets got frozen to the wall of the travel trailer. It warmed up above freezing in a few days, but still stayed cold all winter.

LOL! We would lose any way. . . we usually put our tree up right before Christmas.

So glad you're enjoying your tree!

Bwhahaha! Jeez way before Halloween and the tree is up. It's Halloween!!!!

Nope, I'm not winning this one. And yep, I made a fire in the fireplace Monday 10/12 but the heat is not on yet. But I am not officially in the heat contest being in CA. It will surely get hot at least one more time in Oct. After that we will put the heat on 1.5 hours in the morning. Fires in the evening. And baking in the oven.

I just didn't want him to have to take it down and store it, so I decided that the tree will stay up. Heck, maybe even all year! It looks good in front of my big double doors!

I / we ONLY buy a REAL tree. So, I guarantee I have a better shot at winning the LAST to put up their Christmas tree. Smile

I bought a little electric fireplace for $88 to keep from turning the heat on, but here in Indy, I turned it on last night. Actually, by BF did, but it was like 60 degrees in here. I turned the heater off when we were gone all day. When I turned it on, the furnace was set to 65 and never kicked on at all at night, with the little heater making it 71 and comfy!
