Look how much I have saved!

April 5th, 2009 at 05:26 pm

I talked to a friend this week and she mentioned that she got her hair trimmed and colored every other month. The cost was $125.
So, I figured out that I have saved over $27,000 over the past 37 years by coloring my own hair. Surely my money would have at least doubled over 37 years, so I have saved over $50,000 just by coloring my own hair. I wonder if my dh knows what a bargain I am? lol

I'd be curious what the average women spends on makeup, hair care (salon/coloring), nail salon, etc., etc., etc. & COFFEE!!! I have "broke" friends who think I am "rich" because my spouse doesn't work, etc. But they think nothing of dropping $200/month on beauty treatments. I always found it kind of crazy. & then the latte factor? Oh my goodness. Those are just the 2 things that stand out to me as serious money drains.

I have financially fit friends who enjoy splurging on that, and that is fine. I am just sick of hearing people who can't pay their bills talking about their $100 salon visits.

My spending on all of the above is literally pennies per month.

I agree Monkeymama. I buy one lipstick, eye shadow, eye liner and a jar of ponds cold cream about once a year. I always thought I looked pretty good when I was younger!

I'm with you Ima. I'm amazed at how much people spend on personal care. I personally can get lipstick, facial care products, and many other personal items free after rebates. I also color my own hair, do my own manicures and pedicures. I get my hair cut at a county technical school. Any waxings, I can get there at a reduced costs. I also once in a while like getting scientific facials, but that is rare. It literally takes about 10 years off of your face.

Like you, I don't try to get into alot of expensive items that have to be done on a monthly basis thus sucking the money out of the budget.
