Feeling a little nervous about the election.

November 4th, 2008 at 02:22 pm

I am feeling a little nervous about this election. I have voted for president many many times, but this is the first time that I am worried.
I played bridge yesterday and all the women that I played bridge with said the same thing. They did not like either candidate. Not enough experience. So, two of them said they probably would not even vote.
I don't feel that way at all. We all must vote and must chose the better of the two candidates, I voted two weeks ago. Now, I can just hope that this country will be ok for the next four years. God Bless America!

I agree with you. No matter who your choice, you need to make a choice and get out there and vote!

That is a good point to make.... I guess the younger generation have got so wrapped up in the thrill of change that maybe they have forgot about the fact that the favourite (Mr 0) and the opposing Vice Pres (Ms P) are, in reality, woefully under-experienced for the job.

However, and I don't mean to make a party political jibe here, I think that the ONLY reason that Mr O is on the cusp of victory and Ms P is even a celebrity now at all is that the current President has made such a MESS of your country that people would vote for Scooby-Doo if they thought he could turn it around...

I mean if the current Pres had done a better job, then Mr O and Ms P would never have even got a look-in.... in my opinion.... because the American people would disqualify them both instantly because they would have high standards... now... they're just desperate for change...

What do you think Ima ?

I voted early, but... it was a really tough one for me. Neither one had what I felt was a substantial economic policy... though I'm beginning to think that perhaps such a thing isn't even possible. Both will jack up the national deficit by quite a bit, and spending is extremely unlikely to decrease. Perhaps it can't be helped, but there you have it.

Just my two cents: I think that people need to start looking at congress, and not just the president. Congress has extreme power. I hope that we will still have checks and balances in government.

My mother has always advised that one should never discuss money, religion or politics with others. It is only until adulthood that I finally realize she's right.

Nance, I could NOT agree with you more. The president has so much less to do with policy than we think. Lately I've become a C-SPAN fanatic. I think our country should move toward the direction of all watching C-SPAN more often. And did you know that we have access to EVERY bill being put out there online? It's great stuff, but a lot of work to read.

I hope I didn't come accross as rude in relation to your current Pres ! :-) He is your President and deserves respect for that fact.

I think aevans1206 made a great point re discussing money, politics or religion with others... there is always opportuntity to cause offence or be unintentionally hurtful.

I do respect our President. It is a thankless job to have.
