   ING has high interest checking at 2.25% for $0-$50,000. E*trade has interest checking for 3.25% for >$5,000

   My problem is that I write a lot of checks to people that don't have checking accounts, so I need something local. I also write about 50 checks a month.

   You could always keep money on an acct like etrade/ing and transfer the money out when you need it....
