How is your electric bill?

June 13th, 2007 at 10:31 pm

I am waiting for it to go up. It has been under $100 a month since last summer. It is starting to get really hot here and I do like it cool in the house. I think this month's bill (which will be read tomorrow) will be higher, but ok. In July and August, the bill should be much higher.
Too bad I spend most of my time in the hottest room in the house. The upstairs bedroom is so warm, and that is where I keep the treadmill, tv and computer.

I've been trying to keep the electric bill down. Last month it was $70! That's quite a bit for a 1-bedroom apartment! Today I shut off the air and opened up the windows, and blinds (I shut all the lights off as well!). It just seems quite a bit for such a small place. Hope yours doesn't get too bad!

I'd comment, but I'm on the other side of the country and what you spend per month on electricity in the summer is roughly what I spend per month on heating in the winter.

This will make our 12 month in our new to us house, and so far our electric bill is averaging just under $75 per month for 1700 sq ft. I budget $150 per month b/c that's the highest we ran in the summer at our previous house: our highest bill here was $119...

Mine's always the same year round as I'm on budget billing. It's $93 a month. It used to be $110 a month before I got frugal with my energy usage. Can't seem to get it lower than that.

Do you have a ceiling fan in that room? You can get them for as little as $29 at Lowes. Or, try a fan that mounts on the wall in a corner. That will help with the heat in that room and prevent you from cranking the temp down on the AC when you are in there.

I'm in a small apartment on equal pay. Since I don't have a/c it really balances it out. The first year it was about $30-$35 in the summer and $80-$90 in the winter. Now it's just $65/mo. Although rates have recently gone up and I started paying a little extra for green power so I imagine it will go up soon as it's almost time for them to review last year's usage and recalculate.
