Car accident

May 31st, 2007 at 03:51 pm

My husband had his first car accident yesterday. It was one of those chain reaction things. A vehicle with no lights stopped suddenly and everyone put on their brakes.
He drives a heavy van full of tools and he just could not stop in time. He ran into the car in front of him.
Luckily no one was hurt and there were just a few scratch marks on the other car. He did damage his bumper and grill to the tune of over $1000. So, I guess we will have to pull some money out of savings to pay for the two vehicles. At least he did not get a ticket.
The braves won yesterday and I had a "no gas " day, so I will add $2 to my challenge money.
Prev. total $11,581.00
today 2.00
new total $11,583.00

He may hurt more when he gets home today, sometimes there is a bit of a delay with pain from whiplash or whatever. Thank goodness he was not seriously hurt.

No ticket is definitely a good thing. So is the fact that you have adequate funding for these kinds of emergencies. Most importantly, I hope no one is injured. Smile

No everyone was fine. There were 3 cars involved and not even a bruise. My husband knew the owner of the car and everything was very friendly.

Oh wow, glad he wasn't hurt! The no ticket was a good thing. When DS went through that, they gave everybody a ticket because of some kind of cost of damage rule. Even if you didn't have or cause much damage yourself. But most of all, I'm glad no one was hurt then or in this case either!

I'm surprised they didn't issue him a ticket. Cus i thought that, strictly for insurance purposes, the cops will issue a ticket if you hit someone, just to establish 'fault.' And i was told once that almost no matter what, if you hit someone ahead of you, it's always going to be your fault cus you could have avoided it if you hadn't been following so closely, etc.

That's what 1 cop snarled at me (he wasn't in a good mood) when i hit someone ahead of me who had slowed to turn but whose brake lights also were not working. I thought this was an extenuating factor, but no go. Luckily i didn't get a ticket either since there was no damage...

glad to hear your husband is ok, tho.

Hey, that whiplash thing is real. I had a whiplash when I had to brake hard driving only 25 mph and the neck injury became evident later that night. It took me more than a year to get over it and it really interfered with my normal living. No way could I have built houses with whiplash.

Amen Joan. DH and YD had it when they got rearended and poor YD missed 1/3 of her soccer season... couldn't risk a header.... They both got settlements, though small....both went to physical therapy, DH had headaches for the first time in his life. All recovered now...4 years later.

Is whiplash the same as cervical strain/sprain? I think so

The best outcome is that no one was hurt. Cars can be replaced. Glad to hear your hubby was OK.
