My envelopes are funded

March 12th, 2007 at 10:18 pm

I went to the bank and cashed the paycheck before I went to pay bridge.
As soon as I got home I sat down with my cash and funded all my envelopes.

My husband works by the hour and sometimes his check vary a lot. I set my budget up on a sheet of paper and sometimes there is not enough money to fund all of the envelopes. I put the least important envelopes last, like christmas club, medical account, van payment (which had been paid off for 15 months, but I still save it)land payment (which is also paid off now).
I am always tickled when there is enough paycheck to fund all the accounts and there was today.
It helps that my husband works usually 7 days a week.
You might think that medical should not be placed last, but I know if we have to pay a medical bill, we have the cash in savings. It is just nice to save something in advance.

No spend day

March 12th, 2007 at 03:28 pm

Yesterday, I had a no spend day. I did use a little gas driving out to see my dh at his jobsite. Of course, I didn't really get to look around and talk to him, cause the home owners grabbed me the minute I got there to show me around.
Then I fixed a nice dinner and we ate pretty late, about 9:30.
Now, that the time has changed, my dh didn't even get home from work until almost 8 pm.
My dh enjoys the fact that he can now play music while we eat. We moved our record player, tape and CD player all in one kind of thing, into the breakfast room.
So we got up and danced after dinner!!
Today is payday, so I get to do my envelope thing this afternoon!! One of my favorite things to do.

I can see the buds on the trees

March 11th, 2007 at 09:17 pm

Spring is coming, I can see the buds coming out on the trees today. (some of them) It was a beautiful day and hit 72. I took a ride to look at the house my husband has been building. It is about 15 miles out of town and I have never been out to see it. We also went and looked at some lots for sale.
Except for the gas I used, this was a no spend day and my dh worked all day too.
I love this daylight savings time. I got in two miles on my treadmill, so there is $2 more to add to the challenge.

Got another check

March 11th, 2007 at 02:25 pm

I received another check from NFO my survey for $10. I have been real happy with this survey site. This is the 4th $10 check I have received since christmas. You only get 10 points for each survey, but then they often offer you a longer survey which will pay 100 points or more. You also get 150 points anytime you invite a new person to join and they join.
When you get to 1000 points, you can request a check for $10. Of course, this will get added to my challenge money.

Doesn't take much!!

March 10th, 2007 at 08:53 pm

It doesn't take much to keep me happy. I did my little bit of grocery shopping yesterday, but the one thing I did not get was eggs. My dh eats an egg everyday and I have started to do that also.
the only eggs he likes are the large brown eggs at Bi Lo.
So, I headed there today. I decided to buy some of the cheap eggs, on sale, for me.
I also needed Hood chocolate milk drink and it was on sale, almost $1 cheaper than my regular store.
We didn't need this, but they had frozen apple pies (Mrs. Smith's) on sale, so I picked one up for someday!
I saved $2 on my purchases so I will add that to my challenge money.

30 cents for breakfast!

March 10th, 2007 at 03:17 pm

I just figured out about what dh and I spend for breakfast at home every day. It comes to about 30 cents each.
We each eat one egg and 3 of those little smokies sausage.
We always have left overs for lunch. We bring home our dinner out from the night before and use that for our lunch. My dh is so good about packing his lunch every day of his working lift. I bet that has saved us tons of money.
The subs he uses, eat their lunch out every single day.
We have one guy who has done our a/c work for the past 20 years. He has eaten lunch out for the past 20 years. One day we were talking about stock. He was given the offer to buy stock in his A/C company but he did not have the $2000 to purchase it.
He didn't have $2000 but he could eat lunch at a restaurant every day!!!

I have gotten more frugal

March 10th, 2007 at 01:47 pm

I think I have gotten more frugal since I joined this forum and maybe it is starting to rub off on my husband.
He fixed himself a cup of hot tea this morning. Then he carefully wrapped up the tea bag and took it with him to use again this morning. That is great.

We went and looked at land yesterday after work. The roads are being graded and are pretty bad, so we never got to see the lots on the creek.
They want $175,000 to $195,000 for the creek lots, so it really doesn't matter. I could not afford one anyway.
I sure am glad I bought my two acres on the creek (I live on) when land was much more reasonible.

Every little bit helps

March 9th, 2007 at 09:16 pm

I went to the grocery store and bought diet sprite on sale, so i have 2 dollars to add to my challenge money.
I also found some new sugar free Hershey's chocolate candy and bought a few bags. It is so hard for me to give up chocolate!!
Dh is coming home early tonight and we are going to go look at some land before dinner. The land is on a dirt road right now and we have to go when the weather is dry. It is supposed to rain this weekend and we need to make a decision on buying some land pretty soon. I just hate the thought of paying almost as much as some people pay for their home, on just one lot. ugh!

refrigerator surprise

March 9th, 2007 at 02:39 pm

I was listening to the news today and did you know that refrigerators with the ice and water on the door, cost about 20% more electricity to operate than a regular refrigerator.
Actually, i am the only one that I know that does NOT have the ice and water on the door. I don't like them, because i seem to always spill ice on the floor. It is nice to know that I am saving money on that.

Feels like spring

March 8th, 2007 at 10:20 pm

What a beautiful day it was here today. The temp is in the low 70's and I even put the air on in my car.
I took a bridge class this afternoon and the teacher gave us a test. I am pretty sure I got the high score, not that it means anything. I stopped by the grocery store to get some hamburger for lunch and discovered that roasts are on sale, so I picked one up. I will have to add that savings to my challenge money also.

Never got a ticket

March 8th, 2007 at 05:13 pm

I was just reading Brooklyn girls blog about the fact that a ticket she just got, will wind up costing her about $2000. It was just for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. That is how much her insurance is going to go up for her first ticket.
I think that is terrible.

First of all, I have no idea how much fine you have to pay when you get a ticket?

I guess I am glad I drive slow; it has apparently saved me money. I have never had a ticket in my life. I hope I keep it that way.

March 7th, 2007 at 10:08 pm

I had to go and buy a new fan today and it was not easy finding one. My husband has a severe ringing in his ear and cannot sleep with out a fan running and ours gave up last night.gave up last night.
So, I paid $15 for a fan and $2 for some new sugar free candy.
I also walked 3 miles yesterday so i have $3 more to add to the challenge.

Finally got a check

March 7th, 2007 at 04:55 pm

I finally got my first check from Inbox dollars today.
They have offers and you click on them to read them. The big pay is 3 cents a click. Now sometimes they will offer to pay you $10 to try some service, which you can later cancel. However, you have to give them your credit card number and you know how hard it is to try and cancel something.

So, I stick to the 3 cent click ons and an occasionaly $1 for filling out a form and giving my phone number.
It took me more than a year to earn enough money to redeem, because you have to earn $30 in order to redeem and that is a lot of 3 cent clicks.
Plus, they charge you a $3 processing fee, so my check was for $27 which I will add to the challenge money.

Dreaming about the forum

March 7th, 2007 at 01:40 pm

Well, I am starting to dream about this place. Last night, I dream that I met with a bunch of the ladies on here. We all stayed at a hotel and my roommate was Contrary! She was very nice and we got along great!
On the other hand, my dh did not sleep much last night. Our fan quit and he has to have a fan running in order to sleep. He has a severe ringing in his ear. He is out right now, trying to buy a new fan!

Challenge money

Where is George?

March 6th, 2007 at 02:47 pm

Has anyone seen "Where's George" on any of their bills? I got one the other day and went to their site. I gave them the serial number and found that my dollar was last tracked at a Wendy's in Powder springs, Ga. over 100 miles from here.
Now I am going to be on the lookout for more Georges!!

$70 in interest

March 6th, 2007 at 02:38 pm

I got a draw from a customer on Feb. 5th to pay for the insulation and installing drywall. (that included the materials also.
Knowing how slow this company was, I put the check into my savings until the work was finished and I got the actual final bill. I got the bill on Saturday and immediately sent them a check.
The money I transferred from my saving into my business checking.
My business checking does pay a little interest, but only 1/2 of one percent interest on balances over $10,000.
I figured that I earned an extra $70 in interest by keeping that money in my money market account for the 4 weeks it took to complete the job!
I would have earned $6.90 if I let it sit in my checking.
So I made an extra $63 in interest.
I hope everyone feels that is ok?? It is the first time I have ever done that.

No spend day!

March 5th, 2007 at 10:45 pm

I had a no spend day and a very nice one. There are 4 of us ladies trying to learn how to play bridge. we try and get together on Mondays to play and practice.
This monday is was at another ladies house, so there was no money spent by me. Actually, we don't spend a lot for refreshments since we all drink water. We do, however, pig out on that new candy, kissables! I got my candy half price right after valentine's day. So, I am pretty much set when it is my turn to host again.

Happy birthday, Tinabeana!!

March 5th, 2007 at 02:58 pm

Today is Tina's birthday and I hope she has a very happy day!

New collar

March 4th, 2007 at 09:29 pm

Well my puppy Holly has a pretty pink new collar and it was free. My dh got a $5 coupon to the local ace and it had to be used today.
Actually, a collar was on my "to get" list. Holly has had that one for 6 years and it is about to break.
So, I got a collar and some candy and saved $5.
My dh also wanted an apple pie for supper and I found that and diet sprite on sale at Bi Lo, saving another $3. That is $8 more going to the challenge.

Boy, I am really getting bad!

March 4th, 2007 at 05:38 pm

We have those little divided things, that we put our pills in; you know, one for each day of the week.
My husband takes prilosec and it comes in a "bubble pack"
His pills container has to be refilled on sunday after he takes his sunday pills.
I noticed him refilling it last night. But there was already pills in there for today.
When I looked, I realized that he had put in 6 pills in the container. Where was the 7th? They come 7 to a pack.
I looked in the garbage and sure enough, the 7th pill was still in the pack.

So I saved 71 cents!! He will probably think I am crazy or maybe I just shouldn't even tell him??

A side line plumbing job.

March 4th, 2007 at 02:09 pm

MY dh did a side plumbing job yesterday. We built the house for this guy, but he only uses it about one weekend a month. He leaves the water on and one of the pipes burst. (He had a slow leak outside, he plugged, it blew out and blew a pipe inside the house)
Luckily it did no damage inside, but needed to be fixed.
So my dh went over and worked on it all day yesterday.
I do his paycheck every sunday, so he will not get paid for yesterday from me. By the time he gets these sideline paychecks, it is time for a new pay day.
So, I never count those checks in my budget. I just add them to savings.

He is charging the man $150 for his labor. Since my husband is so handy, we have never hired a plumber or electrician. How much do most plumbers make? He was there for most of the day, plus made side trips to check out the problem last week. I think he is charging a fair fee, do you?

back from the grocery store.

March 3rd, 2007 at 08:41 pm

I got some good deals at the grocery store today. My dh loves baby back ribs but I seldom buy them unless they are on sale. I got a good deal on them and he will be grilling out tomorrow night. I also got a good deal on deli ham, sour cream and some other things. total savings today of $7 that I can add to my challenge money.

What cha going to buy??

March 3rd, 2007 at 02:47 pm

I am now receiving a monthly check that I have never received before. I mentioned that to my waitress last night and her first question was, "what cha going to buy with it?"
I said, I am not going to buy anything, I am going to save it.
She couldn't understand that and said "oh buy yourself something pretty"

After she left, my dh asked me if we were in about 5% of americans that cared more about saving then spending.
I told him no, I think there is a lot more than that, but probably only about 20-25% have our same mind set.
We started thinking about the people we knew, and could only come up with a few people that we knew that lived comfortably and had no money worries.
None of these people were "spenders"
I know one couple that we built a beautiful big house for.
He just retired from a big job with the state of Georgia and has a six figure retirement pay plus social security.

They do travel, they have parties, they have fun, but they do it all on a budget. They allow so much for these things and don't go overboard.

I guess for the rest of the people that we know, all they think about is what can they buy with their money.

More ridge money

What does your life revolve around??

March 2nd, 2007 at 01:27 pm

What does your life revolve around? What is most important in your life? For some, it could be food, drugs, work, children, etc.
Someone on another forum said that my life revolves around money. I would have to disagree.
I learned to respect money at an early age after my father died. We didn't have any income coming in. I learned what it was like to go to school and be hungry all day. Money is important in my life and to many other people, it is too.
But, I would have to say that the most important thing in my life is my husband and our life together.
I think we have a pretty wonderful life!!
