I play bridge with 3 ladies every week. They all get their hair and nails done every week.
I got my hair done when I was young, those were the "teased hair" days. I have never gotten my nails done, ever. I don't even know how much it cost to get your nails done.
Do people really look at nails anyway? If they do, I am going to be a real disappointment to them.
Do you get your nails done??

I used to get my nails done, back in my single days. Now that I'm married and a mom, I cannot justify the cost, nor do I desire the hassle of nails. When I had them, I was forever worried about things - I can't do this, I can't do that because I might break a nail.
Life's to short for such worries, at least in my opinion. I'd rather go have fun with my family without thinking about how it's going to affect my hands.

I'm not really high maintenance like that. I do enjoy grooming once in a while, but that includes taking a long bubble bath and putting cream and scrubs on my face.

I have really bad habit of biting my fingers (not my nails but my fingers -- weird bad habit I've had since I was a kid and means I have horrible callouses). I wonder if getting gel nails would help break me of the habit. The cost would be worth it to me if it helped me break the habit - and if it didn't I couldn't justify it and wouldn't continue it.

But weekly? not likely... and never again acrylics (was for my wedding) just the smoothing, shaping, softening and a bit of buffing would keep me happy.

Oh yeah all my broke friends get their hair and nails done quite often. I don't get it - never will. Not a big fan of it all. But once in a while if I get in a foofy mood I can do my own hair and nails quite fine.
Frankly I would never get my nails done. I try to live in a natural environment, the chemicals would probably knock me out. Way too sensitive. I don't even like to go into a salon. Just can not breathe. I don't even really like nail polish anymore - the stuff reaks. But I like to dress up my nails once in a while - I can be a little girly at heart.

On the flip side, I am considering a pedicure. Not because I want to get the nails done but because I think I need some work on the callouses on my feet. I've never had a pedicure before.

If you work out in the public, such as at a bank where the public is forever viewing your nails, it's a good idea to keep them neat and trimmed even if you do it yourself.

It's funny, but I found out it's cheaper to have mani's and pedi's in NYC and California! Much more competition for the business in those areas as opposed to some place like Chicago. Who knew?

Brazilian women hardly ever use acrylic/silk/gel nails, but they get them done once a week. It is commom sense in Brazil that you do not have to have long nails (and that is even hard to maintain these days) or to choose colorful polishes, but they do have to look neat and your nails must be done.
The good thing in Brazil is that it is not very expensive to get manicure and pedicure, as, unfortunately, services are not much valued there. So it costs something around $5-10 for both of them.
Another interesting fact is that you will find a beauty parlor almost on every corner! Actually, the beauty industry is one of the fastest growing ones in the country.
