Downtown Atlanta

November 11th, 2006 at 05:24 pm

We have lived across the street from the "neighbors from hell" for about 10 years now. It was grandma and teen age grandson. He left the floodlights (outside) on almost every night and they shined in our bedroom windows all night long. He stayed up all night and slept all day. We asked nicely that they be turned off, but they never were.
They moved out 6 months ago and put the house up for sale.
Wonderful, quiet, peaceful and DARK!!

Someone decided to replace the post lights at the end of the drive (about 50 feet from our bedroom window) with HUGE come on at dark, go out in the morning, Post lights!
They are the type of security light you would use at a business in a high crime neighborhood, like Atlanta!
No sleep the first night. I called the realtor. He sent someone to turn it off yesterday, but obviously, she did not. The light came back on at 6 pm.
We got a ladder and tried to cover the lights with black garbage bags.
The lights are so huge, they shone right thru the bags.
What are people thinking of, putting up lights like this??

Someone suggested I get blinds and curtains. I don't like them. Why should I pay thousands of dollars for them?

The lights are out now. Some of you may think this is terrible, but he took a ladder (they are about 10 feet high) and he unscrewed them. We got to sleep. I don't know if I should call the realtor back or not??

yes, i would definitely call! i hate hate HATE security lights put up by the power company: they're too bight, loud, and unsightly. when i was renting, i would always have the power company turn them off (cause you get billed for the power they use!).

I hate them too. Usually security lights are by an entrance but these just shine directly into our bedroom and the bed is between the 2 windows they shine in. Two of them!!

Definately call! We have 1 of those lights back by our barn but I sure wouldn't have it right by someone elses house! That is really inconsiderate.

I live in South Florida and there is a law about how far a light beam can go out. We have Team Metro here and they will go out and check the lights. We used to have one in the back yard and one in the front. Our house was like daylight all night long. Sometimes I think that people just aren't aware of how their lights are bothering others. If you are friendly, you can invite them over when the lights are on and they might get the message. Otherwise, call you zoning board and let them deal with it. It is a violation.

Sling shots work very nicely for those type of jobs and you get practice in with the aiming.

Ou r worker is very good when it comes to guns. The neighbors are moved away so we only have a realtor to deal with. We don't have a zoning board either. Hopefully the light bulbs will remain unscrewed until the house sells. Then maybe we can talk the owner into keeping it turned off at least after midnight!

Doesn't peace and contentment amongst neighbors make for the best security? If those lights are that annoying, I think it promotes crime. Its just like the annoying car alarm. You want someone to steal the car just to stop the whoop whoop whoop.

Wow, I'm glad I've never encountered this problem before.

Quite the opposite, my next door neighbor leaves their flood lights on all night every night, but the angle they have it is such that it doesn't shine directly into my room. Only at a sharp angle. I also have blinds, and the result is this soft, make-shift "night light" that I am perfectly comfortable with.

In a way, I also can't blame them because the area they're lighting up is completely dark. And entire army of home invading, non-frugal ninjas could sneak through and we wouldn't even know it.

There is also something that they can do to the light. There is something that you can put over a certain part that allows the neighbor to get the light he needs without it shining in your yard. They can also angle the lights in a different direction also. Don't give up.
