Have I lived too long??

November 3rd, 2006 at 09:21 pm

I don't feel that old, but I sure feel that dumb. I have never had a cell phone, never wanted one. My dh got one about 5 years ago and uses it for work.
But we got notice that the phone is old and is being cancelled and got offered a new phone that does everything.
We did not want that, just a simple cell phone. I just got back from radio shack with a simple $20 phone.
I have looked at the booklet they gave me for the phone and I have absolutely no clue how to do anything on it!
Since I had to program the last one, I know dh will have no clue either.
Well, at least I won't have to hear him gripe about how badly his phone works. This one will probably work great, if we can ever figure it out.

I don't think it's that you're old; it's just a matter of not being familiar with it because you don't use it every day. I certainly would have no clue how to properly operate one of your husband's construction tools!

Good luck with the manual. Smile

Ima - I'm not (that) old... I'm also pretty tech savvy and have a hard time with these new cell phones as well. I have no use for a cell phone except to make calls. Nowadays, it seems you can do just about everything with these little gadgets. For what purpose? Get you all confused comes to mind

I can't buy a phone that does music, photos, whatall, cos I can't operate it either. The kids often help me with programming whoopsies. It amazes me that they get one and get it to do everything but tap dance without even looking at the manuals. The manual on my last one was so huge, I was intimidated by the manual alone!

Haha. I don't think that's an age thing. I think it's a technical manual thingie thing. Big Grin There are plenty of people out there that don't know how to work their electronics, and often times poor documentation and directions is part of the blame.

In fact, I would take it a step further and say that perhaps it's even a technology design issue. Seriously. Many MP3 players out there have failed, in part because they were not user-friendly. The Queen of England was known to have famously remarked to Sir Howard Stringer that Sony's MP3 player at the time was too difficult to use, and should be more like Apple's. Big Grin

It's a very interesting issue with a much broader implication than it may seem at first.
